{"id":5227,"date":"2012-04-20T03:19:10","date_gmt":"2012-04-19T17:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theguamguide.com\/?p=5227"},"modified":"2012-04-20T03:19:10","modified_gmt":"2012-04-19T17:19:10","slug":"get-into-the-groove-walk-with-your-best-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archives.theguamguide.com\/ja\/get-into-the-groove-walk-with-your-best-friends\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Get into the groove\u2019 walk with your \u2018best friends\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"zumba\" src=\"http:\/\/archives.theguamguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/zumba.jpg\" alt=\"zumba\" width=\"360\" height=\"504\" \/><em>By Mar-Vic Cagurangan<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Remember the neon-colored leggings, oversized off-shoulder T-shirts, big earrings, lace gloves and the big hair highlighted with gravity-defying bangs?<\/p>\n<p>Relive those days of radically fun fashion at the Zumba to the \u201880s party on April 25, starting at 6 p.m. at the Tamuning Gym.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZumba fundraisers are all the rage these days, so we wanted to do something different,\u201d\u00a0said Faye Varias, event chair and owner of Puppy Love Guam.\u00a0\u201cSince most Zumba fanatics are from a generation that remembers where they were\/how they dressed during the &#8217;80s, we thought it would be a fun little twist to the class, with a prize incentive for dressing up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The retro-theme fundraising party is a kickoff event for the American Cancer Society\u2019s Bark for Life,\u00a0a spinoff of Relay for Life.<\/p>\n<p>Bark for Life is\u00a0an annual national event\u00a0that celebrates the relationship between the canine caregivers and the cancer survivors.\u00a0It will be\u00a0held for the first time on Guam on June 2, with\u00a0families and their \u201cbest friends\u201d walking a one-mile course.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a dog lover as well as an individual whose family has been affected by cancer, I stepped up to chair this inaugural event. It&#8217;s very intimidating, but it&#8217;s all for a good cause so it&#8217;s well worth the time and effort,\u201d Varias said.<\/p>\n<p>The event, she added, \u201cpresents an opportunity for people to be empowered through their canine companion partnerships\u00a0and to contribute to cancer cures through the mission of the American Cancer Society.\u201d<br \/>\nParticipants are allowed to register no more than two dogs per adult.
